The Craziest Model Car Ever Review

nifeliz apollo ie

This thing is a different level because when you come to look at it, your eyes are just drawn to this. It's so outlandish.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to our blog. It's Victor from the Nifeliz team here. Nifeliz's sets are not Lego but compatible.

Today we're going to be reviewing the craziest model car EVER! Are you ready to be amazed? First things first, we're going to learn about its details.

— Set details —

This one is called Nifeliz Apello IE Race Car Building Kit and Engineering Toy. It consists of 3,668 pieces and came out in 2022. So this is a modified version of the Apollo Intensa Emozione, sometimes referred as the IE and even actually seeing it on the box like this is quite exciting. On the box, this says it's recommended for ages 16 and up. I could not be more excited. So let's not wait around. I'm just going to open it up and show you guys what's inside.

— Completion —

Hey, guys. Welcome back. We finished it. You know what they say, many hands make light work. I needed an extra couple hands for this set, so once again, my son, Justin, had been here to help me build this set. This 1:8 Scale Sports Car Model for Adults Men Teens took us about nine hours to make and we had a lot of fun building it together. In fact, the gear switch along with the movable paddle gearshift kept Justin engaged. This has been a great learning experience for him.

He discovered that he could shift the gear so that it engaged the pistons. He also found he could hear that. When the car is moving, you can just hear that noise. Then he noticed that if he switched the gear and just put it in the middle, it was quieter. It didn't make that much noise. Although he doesn't know if it's supposed to be like that, he finds that cool. He likes it quieter though.

— About the Apollo IE —

The Apollo IE is the most extreme car of this time! It is by far and away the most aggressive and menacing car that, I think, will ever be driven on the roads. Plus, there are only 10 being made in total.

The Apollo IE is an extreme machine powered by a 6.3 l V12 that makes 800 hp, with an automated sequential gearbox, housed in a dramatic body with radical design inspired by insects and nature.

The exterior design is based on airflow and nature, insects and marine animals in particular. The interior is based entirely on the nature theme, with a cocoon-style carbon fiber tub cockpit, in the style of a leather-wrapped prototype race car. Apart from the natural thought, the car was also intended to have a design that would stand out from all other sports cars.

— Features —

You know as a side note, originally I was not planning on building this, but as a Nifeliz fan, I was absolutely thrilled that Nifeliz released the Apollo IE set before Lego did for the real car is the one of the coolest cars I have ever seen in my entire life, so I decided to spoil myself with this incredible set.

Again the actual Nifeliz system was utilized for this set, you know, actually building universal ones to make more realistic cars. Therefore, as for the styling, just like the real car, Nifeliz Apello IE Race Car Building Kit and Engineering Toy is one of the most alien spaceship-looking model cars in the world. The design is radical. I've seen a lot of model cars before and this is hands down the craziest model car I've ever seen. In addition to looking stylistically incredible, there are several fun functions to play around with.

Now let's dive into all of the features of of this thing.

Here we go then. First, looking at the front side, it's literally one of the most aggressive-looking front portions, probably ever. It looks like a menacing shark.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Like the real car, it has got a shark-like nose where you'll see there's a little Apollo logo at the front. How cool that is!

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

The hood does not open, but there are vents in the central section between the nose and the bumper. When you really start to just see them very closely, yon can see absolutely all the way through to the gears that are going inside there. How open it is!

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And then if you look down towards the bottom here, you can see  that the splitter represented by two long black pieces extends forward from the front bumper. It must be sort of downforce side of things. How detailed that is!

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

On either side of the front of the car, you can see the Y-shaped daytime running lights. They look exactly the same as those on a real IE. They're composed of two white tubes. One is short while the other is pretty long. These tiny hidden strips are integrated into the front of the car. I think they look really neat.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Underneath the daytime running lights, you can see the headlights. They are two nice-looking round clear pieces. And the way the headlights are integrated into those Y-shaped daytime running lights is something I really like.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

The front design with the headlights and the sort of running lights style looks very aggressive down towards the front. How dramatic it is! It is designed like no other.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Taking a look at the sides, it's so cool.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

One of the most incredible features of this model car has to do with its doors. Just like the actual car, you have the gull-wing styled doors, which is awesome.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

The coolest feature, however, is each gull-wing door is on one of those shock-absorbing springs to prevent it slamming shut, as a result of which it is well nigh impossible to open and close it with any kind of speed. And I've got to say this makes opening and closing the doors a pleasure. That's probably one of my favorite bits.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And we've got two nice side mirrors on the doors. They both raise and lower. Each of them is split into two parts, indicating the side mirror and the door mirror camera for on the actual IE, you do have the traditional mirror similar to what you'd have in your car and then a camera is also lurking right there in the side mirror.

And then if I look down towards the wheels here, I really do like this wheel design because that’s quite brilliant on its own. The wheel design is sort of hollowed out all the sort of empty spaces, obviously to do with making the car lightweight and track-oriented. It's very neat with the silver center locks naturally. And we've got gold central nuts as well, which make the wheels look more appealing. Also the red brake calipers are tucked in there.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Besides, these are custom-made for this kit and they have some really meaty tires. Now this is a square stance kit meaning that the width of tires are exactly the same from front to back.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And not only that, but also we have the double shock absorbers on each wheel. So look at this. Its independent suspension is pretty good. They actually do move up and down.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Looking at the back side, the detail in the back is one of the craziest parts of the car as if the rest of the car weren't crazy enough.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Look at these triple exhausts down here in the center. They look very realistic. These are designed very much like an insect. And it's a very very very unique exhaust design for the tips. I've never seen anything created like that.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

IE, by the way, stands for Intensa Emozione. When you look at this model car from the back, you can probably work out what that stands for. It might be a cliche, but it literally is a very very very intense emotion even looking at this cool exhaust. I can imagine hearing the amazing noise that just comes out of those triple exhausts in the middle. It sounds so loud that you can hear it from a long way away.

Fun fact of the real IE: the exhaust in this shape is their signature, Trident exhaust, which is a representative of the brand. And it's actually 3D printed from a solid block of titanium and the cost for just the tips of the exhaust is more than a BMW M4!

And then we've got these brake lights on either side of those exhausts. Like the Y-shaped daytime running lights, they are almost a similar Y kind of shape integrated into the rear bumper. Though they consist only of two red clear pieces, it works. Isn't that incredible? I mean the designer of this model car literally managed to make it all connect perfectly.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Like the real car, we've got this race car-like diffuser section down at the back that goes all the way through. They just thought of everything in this set. I'm in love with it.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

In the midst of the this diffuser section is the rear light or taillight. It is also a red clear piece, representing the LED light on the actual car and that looks correct.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And looking down at the central bumper, you will notice that there's a license plate with a special type of number on there. I'm not sure what it refers to.

And that's something to emphasize. Somehow even though it looks insane, the real IE is actually road-legal. This is a car that can have a license plate and be driven on the road as well as presumably quite a lot of fun on a racetrack.

And next up, let's talk about the wing because it is really a marvel of this car. This whole setup is just frankly ridiculous. It's a double-layered wing attached with a kind of shark fin all the way through to the central strut where the roof scoop is.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Look at the size of the rear wing. This is definitely one of the largest, widest and highest wings. It's as wide as the car, literally as wide as a wing can possibly be. The tallest bit is the scoop that you can just see at the end of the shark fin running towards the rail from the rear wing. The wing is so high over the back of the car. It just looks absolutely crazy, but Apollo says this is all functional to provide downforce that helps keep the real IE on the ground tight on the racetrack when you're driving along. Though it has a huge amount of downforce, 1,350 kilos of net downforce, the car just weighs 1,250 kilos. There is literally more downforce than the actual weight of the car. That is really important for racetrack driving and theoretically that's why the car looks like this.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And then just underneath the roof scoop, we've got a really nice engine compartment where there is the mid-rear mounted V12 engine just like the actual IE. I like how they've designed the engine here for you can see those moving pistons and you can also see some engine covering there, which is quite nice.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And not only that, but also we've got our exhaust manifold to the engine. And the engine is going to be pushing the gases through these different pipes in this exhaust manifold. Each pipe is very long  and there's a bend in it, but still, you can see from one end to the other. It is very detailed.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

You can even see two engine breather tubes to either side of the engine. I have to say this is so incredibly detailed.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Now next up, I want to move on to a discussion of the exterior of this model car and specially I want to address all of the cuts and gouges and openings and holes throughout the exterior of it. Like the actual car, it's just ridiculous-looking and Apollo says everything is designed for some airflow and aerodynamics.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

So for example, if you look at some of the sharpest points in the front, such as these air inlets, they must be sort of aerodynamic side of things.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And then if you look through the cutaway here to either side of the hood, you can see that it's sort of completely just opened up, which I guess, again is for the release of airflow. Though the hood does not open, this shows a cutaway view of the trunk. How interesting!

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Just looking around the sides now, I can see the little air pass-through, for example, here behind the front wheel. I guess it works on both sides of the real IE in terms of airflow through the car, but also in terms of design to keep it looking visually very attractive and dramatic.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And there is the big radiator in front of the rear wheel for the cooling as well. The exterior has it all.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Additionally, this particular exterior is finished in this lovely purple power coating, accented by the silver wheels, which just makes for a stunning color combination. Powder coatings cost a little more, but they certainly look more attractive.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

I must say I love the purple color here, too, especially when it shines in the light. Usually as you probably noticed before, I like matte colors. Although satin black on the prototype IE is cool, there are so many little design elements on this thing that you can't really appreciate when it's that dark paint. So as for this insane-looking model car, I like to see it come in brighter colors like the purples just because that way, I can see the lines better.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Finally, let us take a look at the interior. The interior is just as insane as the exterior.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

So obviously the steering wheel is incredibly unique. Like the actual car, we've got a flat bottom cut-off top steering wheel. It gets a small diameter with a flat bottom and no top section. What was the inspiration or reason to have it shaped like that? Well, this small diameter steering wheel is flat on the bottom for increased leg clearance, while the top is cut away for gauge visibility.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And the steering wheel is also another thing that's functional. As you can see, we can turn the wheel right and left, so you can actually steer the car.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

There are paddle shifters right behind the steering wheel here. So if I tug on them, I can change the speed in which the cylinders operate. That's very interesting. Because the paddle shifters are there, there is no gas pedal or brake pedal. There is actually no legroom at all, so I guess they sacrificed a bit of reality for functionality, which is fine.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

And then in front of that steering wheel is really clever part usage. We've got these tiles, representing a large central screen and we've also got a cheese wedge to either side of it, representing additional side screen for the door mirror camera. So on the real IE, you actually have the ability to just see a rear view on the side screens.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

We've got the gear switch in the center of the interior as well. On the left, you can see there's a sticker indicating four levers on the top of the control compartment. Those are the transmission levers. We have P, R, N, and D, which stand for Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive respectively, but actually in this model car, you push it down to engage each gear except P or Park. When you move the vehicle forward or backward, those pistons will move. That's actually controlled by a gear shifter right here, which can be shifted into three different positions. And when it's in a Neutral position, that gearbox does not move. That's pretty interesting.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Now this model car not only looks like the original Apollo IE, but also it has the addition here of fixed-back bucket seats. In the original Apollo IE, the seats are literally a race car seats. The seats are tailor-made to match the unique measurements of the owner. However, if you're going to go in the shotgun seat of the real car and go for a ride, getting in and out of the car can be difficult. I think maybe you have to put one leg in, sit down and shuffle in. That's definitely a challenging car to climb into.

Instead, the seats in this model car are fixed-back buckets that are really tight in order to keep you in place when you're going around hard corners on the racetrack. Each seat has a nice headrest. I love the different tile work. So these seats are very race car-inspired, but they also look quite sort of comfortable and appealing.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Furthermore, it's not just the owner's seat. Everybody can easily get in and out of the car as well as the seats. And that fits in with Nifeliz system, as I mentioned earlier, actually building universal ones to make more realistic cars.

— Summary —

All in all, the design of Nifeliz Apello IE Race Car Building Kit and Engineering Toy is the craziest model that I have probably ever seen on four wheels. Like the real Apollo IE, the attention to detail in this model car is actually awesome. You can't take your eyes off this car. Everything about it is cool, just pure cool. Look at the unique exhausts! Look at the mega wing! Look at the spectacular wheels! I can go on and on. I could spend forever looking around it just taking in every detail. Thanks to the beautiful purple powder-coated finish, it creates such a stunning work of art. If you're a brick-building fan or a car lover, it is worth having.

Nifeliz Apollo IE Compatible With Lego

Furthermore, this Adult Collectible Sports Car Technology Car Building Kit is functional. With one of those shock-absorbing springs, the gull-wing door is definitely a pretty cool play feature, which is a definite plus. And what's more, my son got the learning experience from the gear switch as well as the movable paddle gearshift, so the build process was like educational entertainment for both my son and me. We had so much fun building this.
I love this model and I'm keeping this in my house for the rest of my life.
