CLX GTR Racing Car Review
From a track legend to a miniature model, the creation of the CLX GTR Racing Car represents an in-depth exploration of "effective replication".This review documents the assembly process of the road-legal version, as well as practical observations such as hose shaping and component interference.By analyzing the "unexpected resistance" encountered during the assembly process, let’s work together to find a better balance between part quality and the overall builder experience.
1.Box and Packaging
●Bag 1: 6 bags (Steps 1–118)
●Bag 2: 5 bags (Steps 119–226)
●Bag 3: 5 bags (Steps 227–351)
●Bag 4: 4 bags (Steps 352–453)
●Bag 5: 1 bag (Steps 1–17) — for building the race version
●Wheels & tires: 4 sets
●Bookmark: 1 piece
●Parts boxes: 3 pieces
2.Assembly Process
Open Bag 1 to complete the assembly of the chassis, front suspension and interior.
There are 6 parts bags in total.
Open the parts bag labeled 1.17. Assemble the first section of the chassis. Please note that the 8×16 black base plate in step 5 is placed in the uncoded parts bag, together with tires and wheel hubs.
Open the parts bags labeled 18.45-1 and 18.45-2, and continue assembling the chassis and seat sections.
Open the parts bag labeled 46.74 and assemble the body trim panels.
Open the parts bag labeled 75.100 and assemble the dashboard and front suspension.
Open the parts bag labeled 101.118 and continue assembling the car's interior, front suspension, and front axle drive system.
Open Bag 2 to complete the engine compartment, rear suspension and front windscreen. There are 5 individual parts packs in Bag 2.
Open bag 156.179 to continue assembling the engine bay and rear structure. Please note that the blue hose in step 178 needs curvature adjustment to prevent popping open from stress.
Open bag 180.199 to assemble the rear system. Adjust the curvature of the gray hose in step 197. Since it overlaps with components from steps 178 and 196, adjust it to the correct fastening angle to avoid popping open from stress.
Open parts bag 200.226 to assemble the rear suspension and front windscreen.
Open Bag 3 to complete the front body covers and butterfly doors. There are 5 individual parts packs in Bag 3.
Open parts bag 227.249 to assemble the front hood.
Open parts bag [250.265] to assemble the front air intake section.
Open parts bag 266.298 and assemble the front section. Please note steps 284 and 288: the silver‑plated parts have a slight curve.
Open parts bag 299.315 and assemble the butterfly doors.
Open parts bag 316.351 and complete the assembly of the butterfly doors.
Open bag 4 to assemble the rear body panels and the rear wing. There are 4 individual parts packs in Bag 4.
Open parts bag 352.369 and assemble the taillight section.
Open parts bag 370.401 and continue building the rear hood assembly.
Open parts bag 402.433 for the connection part of the car cover after assembly.Open parts bag 434.453 for the rear cabin louver and rear wing after assembly. Please note the 2×12 long plate from step 448 is also in the uncoded bag.
Finally, assemble the tires and wheel hubs from the uncoded parts bag.
3.Overall Evaluation
Taking the assembly process as a lens, we witness the completion of the CLX GTR Racing Car Road Version. With an in-depth deconstruction of the original vehicle structure, this model achieves restoration.
The entire assembly follows a bottom-up construction sequence: chassis → framework → cockpit → body panels. The building logic is linear and smooth with well-fitted parts. A crisp clicking sound can be heard during assembly, delivering an excellent tactile feedback experience.
Boasting a rigorous structure, it finely replicates the mid-mounted V12 engine, rear compartment shutters and integrated rear wing. The butterfly doors not only open and close smoothly, but also restore the original folding mechanism designed to optimize cockpit access. Visually, the silver-gray paintwork paired with the low-slung body presents a steady and powerful stance.
The flexible hoses included can be cut to length according to actual assembly needs. However, shaping them requires a little extra patience. Minor interference pressure may occur due to overlapping components, so please manually adjust the hoses to match the curved shape shown in the instructions.
In addition, there is still room for improvement in the flatness of hose cuts and the surface finish of plated parts.
All in all, this CLX GTR Racing Car building set features high restoration accuracy, a smooth assembly process and exquisite detailing, offering great playability and ornamental value. It only has minor imperfections in hose shaping and plating craftsmanship. With a little patience for adjustment, you can get a stunning finished piece, making it well worth collecting and enjoying an immersive building experience for sports car model enthusiasts.
