BEHIND THE SCENES: The Lotus that Stands Above the Mud
From the depths of mud, a lotus lifted its head to the light. That quiet defiance became the soul of this creation.
A Summer Morning That Sparked an Idea
The story of NIFELIZ LOTUS began on a quiet summer morning. Designer Farrin Lyn, once a landscape architect, was walking by a still pond. The surface was wide and green with lotus leaves, dotted with blossoms in different stages of bloom. A frog leapt into the water, dragonflies skimmed the surface, and a light mist drifted in the air.
This scene stayed with her. It was calm, yet alive. Later, she began shaping a model that could bring that same quiet beauty indoors - something that feels like a small pond you can keep right at home.
One Flower, Many Stories
Designing with a single flower type was far from simple. To avoid monotony, Farrin chose to show the lotus in different stages:
Tightly closed buds, full of potential.
Fully bloomed flowers, vibrant and open.
Fading seed pods, symbols of time passing.
Together, these elements capture the rhythm of life - growth, flourishing, and quiet retreat.
The lotus leaves were kept simple, so the flowers could remain the focus. Stems were placed at varied angles - some upright, some leaning - echoing the way lotuses grow freely in nature. A few smaller flowers were added, like whispers in the background, softening the whole composition.
Still Waters, Gentle Balance
For the container, Farrin avoided tall vases. Instead, she designed a shallow, dish-like base that reflects the feel of still water. This lower profile brings the lotus closer to the surface, creating the sense of blossoms floating just above a calm pond. The water itself becomes part of the scene, like a mirror that holds the flowers.
Colors also played a role. At first, Farrin leaned toward brighter pink, but many existing products used that palette. After several trials, she shifted to a more muted, classical lotus pink, inspired by traditional paintings. To balance the scene, she added a single white lotus - pure, understated, quietly resonant.
Challenges Along the Way
Bringing the idea to life wasn't straightforward.
The container had to be redesigned multiple times. The first version was too thin, making the arrangement look top-heavy. Farrin thickened it slightly, giving the model more balance and weight in hand.
Color testing took several rounds before settling on the right tone - neither too loud nor too dull.
Even the buds were reworked, replacing loose-fitting parts with tighter ones to ensure the shapes held firmly during building.
What may look like a simple set today went through many revisions before reaching its final harmony.
Little Details That Bring It Alive
The NIFELIZ LOTUS is more than flowers. Two small frogs rest on lotus leaves, suggesting the life of a real pond. The curved stems create natural movement, making the arrangement feel less like a fixed ornament and more like something gently growing. Even the shallow dish hints at cool summer water, completing the picture.
More Than Just a Model
To Farrin, the lotus represents more than beauty. It's a symbol of purity, resilience, and quiet strength -“growing out of the mud yet staying unstained.” Each bloom carries meaning: white for purity, pink for love, pale tones for freshness and youth.
That is why she hopes this piece won't just decorate a shelf. Instead, it should bring a small moment of calm into everyday life. A reminder, in her words, “to slow down, breathe, and notice beauty that quietly blooms.”
